The 'Emerald Carpet' is an evergreen groundcover that grows to 1' tall by 6-8' wide. It is favored by many landscapers as the manzanita of choice for inland situations. It has dark green leaves and exhibits compact growth. This variety is relatively tolerant of adverse soil conditions. -Monterey Bay Nursery

This is a native ground cover that grows 2'-3' high and spreads 4'-6'. It has a blue-gray, green leaves and pale pink flowers that bloom in the winter.

Compact Lacy Nandina

Common name:Compact Lacy Nandina
Botanical name:Nandina domestica 'Compacta'

The dwarf heavenly bamboo is an evergreen shrub that grows 4'-5' tall and 3' wide. It has green and bronze foliage that turns red in the winter. Red berries appear in fall and winter. It is resistant to oak root fungus and hardy to 10 degrees F. Small white flowers appear in spring. It prefers full to part sun with a moderate amount of watering, more during hot summer areas. It is deer resistant and looks great in woodland theme gardens.

Springtime Indian Hawthorn

Common name:Springtime Indian Hawthorn
Botanical name:Rhaphiolepis indica 'Springtime'

This slow-growing plant will only grow 3-5' high and has dark green, thick foliage. It produces clusters of white to crimson flowers that bloom in spring and clusters of black fruit in the fall.
